THE taste mentorship internship program

Applications now open for Fall/Winter 2024 and/or SPRING/SUMMER 2025

Gain direct, one-on-one film editing, business development and career mentorship with the founder of TASTE. You will learn not only the art of film & video editing and the business of independent filmmaking, but also receive film & media career mentorship. You will be working on the internationally award-winning food documentary series, TASTE.

In this divided world, we believe that nothing unites us better than food and stories. TASTE is a short-form documentary series that brings people together through these two uniting, global forces.

We film the uncovered, true stories about the risk-takers who make our food worldwide.

Our TASTE documentary films include dictator-fighting restaurateurs in Myanmar, Michelin-starred chefs in Europe, snail farmers in Vienna, hunters in Borneo jungles, cricket farmers in Thailand, Jewish bakers fighting anti-Semitism in Budapest, former felons-turned-fine dining chefs, and many more.

We reveal the undiscovered stories of struggle, risk and reward behind our food.

To date, we've filmed 70 documentary short films across 30 countries worldwide in Asia, Europe and the Americas—from Bhutan to Budapest to Brooklyn.

The yet-to-be released series has earned 45 international film festival nominations and awards on its pilot episodes thus far and has been featured in international press such as Food & Wine Magazine, Edible, Huffington Post, PBS and more.

WHAT FORMER TASTE INTERNS HAVE TO SAY:

Looking back on my internship with TASTE, I feel so grateful to have had the opportunity to gain hands-on-experience and 1-on-1 mentorship at a very early point in my career—that’s not common with most entry-level internships. During my internship, I was given the opportunity to get my hands dirty, make mistakes, learn and collaborate. It felt empowering to be given the creative freedom to create something that I felt excited about. By the end of my internship with TASTE, I had built a solid foundation in editing that ultimately kick-started my career.
— Monique K. | TASTE Assistant Editor Intern
Interning at TASTE was a fantastic opportunity to gain a glimpse into the world of documentary filmmaking. Kevin is incredibly knowledgeable, and through TASTE’s internship, I was able to film world-renowned chefs, edit captivating stories, and eat some amazing food. Anyone interested in learning more about the world of documentary filmmaking would be lucky to work with Kevin on TASTE!
— Ryan Y. | TASTE Assistant Editor Intern, Assistant Cinematographer Intern and Marketing & Digital Video Intern
During my internship, I had the incredible opportunity to connect with potential media outlets and dive deep into the world of planning, budgeting, and producing various events and ideas. This hands-on experience not only sharpened my skills but also fueled my passion for the creative industry. A huge thank you to Kevin Longa for guiding me and allowing me to contribute to such innovative projects.
— Julia L | TASTE Business of Film, Media & Journalism Intern
My almost 16-month internship at TASTE was an immensely productive one. Kevin gave me very flexible hours, and allowed me to learn the tools of the trade at my own pace while also giving me deadlines to ensure I was attaining my own goals. I learned so much about 360º/VR filmmaking, and when my time at TASTE Productions had come to an end, I was introduced to a variety of very helpful and friendly contacts in the industry. I highly recommend working for TASTE!
— Alex B. | TASTE 360 VR Video Editor Intern
The Business of Film, Media, & Journalism internship was incredibly insightful and helped me learn a lot about marketing and distribution. Kevin is a great mentor whose passion for the project is infectious and makes you feel like the work you’re doing truly matters.
— Dhruv A. | Business of Film, Media, & Journalism Intern
Working with TASTE and Kevin was a very valuable and rewarding experience in my career. Kevin is a great mentor who not only pushes to create work that is creative and inspiring but also has excellent technical skills. Working with TASTE really helped me become more detail oriented and gain a good understanding of all the work it takes to create documentary films. Getting to work on such cool content before it is released is definitely a plus!
— Kruthika S. | TASTE Marketing & Digital Video Intern and Business of Film, Media & Journalism Intern
As an intern for TASTE, I got to have hands-on experience in every step of the post-production process, and I felt my creative choices and input had a significant impact on the final edits I made with Kevin. I recommend this program for any aspiring editor who thrives on solid, meaningful feedback and wants to get their hands on some really awesome footage to play around with.
— Finn O. | TASTE Assistant Editor Intern
The archival internship at TASTE was a valuable experience that gave me a glimpse into the tedious but tremendously important part of any video production. What I enjoyed the most about the internship is that I got to do hands-on work from day one and received immediate feedback from Kevin, who is patient with questions and attentive to suggestions. I also liked the independence I had as an intern. I could structure my working hours depending on my busy academic schedule, and I was given a lot of freedom to approach the tasks the best way I see fit. This is an ideal internship for those that would not be deterred by hard work in exchange for that sweet taste of discovering buried gold in a sea of footage!
— Ashley H. | TASTE Assistant Archival Editor
Working with Kevin as an intern at TASTE was a great experience, especially as someone trying to start a career in the Film/TV industry. I was trusted to do my work on my own time, where I helped out with various tasks and films, and was constantly learning from Kevin’s expertise. How much you do is dependent on you and you are constantly given the opportunity to do/learn more, if desired!
— Ben G. | TASTE Assistant Editor Intern
I thoroughly enjoyed my internship and now have a very valuable experience under my belt. As I go into the “real world” having this internship experience was good for me to start out as a professional.  Being able to use my skills in a real-life situation is the best learning experience in the world. I loved being immersed in an intensive and professional environment, working under Kevin’s guidance and developing the essential creative concepts and technical craft to make films.
— Holly L. | TASTE Assistant Editor Intern
Definitely was a fulfilling experience. Kevin’s a cool and down-to-earth mentor and taught me a lot about the ins and outs of editing documentaries. Furthermore, the experience was laid-back and challenging at the same time. Definitely worth it if you’re willing to put in the time and effort.
— Avery T. | TASTE Assistant Editor Intern
My internship at TASTE was a great experience as I got to work with Kevin directly and learn from him by editing videos that were actually used by the channel, allowing me to gain tangible video editing skills. Kevin is a fantastic mentor for beginners in the field - he patiently helps you learn the basics and is willing to give you the opportunity to grow by working on bigger projects as your skill level increases. Moreover, through this internship, I developed an appreciation for food as a tool of community building. Since then, my own projects have been inspired by the role of food in people’s lives, be that my food documentary on Biryani or my choice to incorporate Banana Bread into my thesis.
— Anvitha P. | TASTE Marketing & Digital Video Intern
Over the past half a year I have had the immense pleasure of learning firsthand not only how the documentary film business works, but how the entertainment world runs as well, and it is all thanks to Kevin Longa. Meetings in Washington Square Park felt nothing like meetings, but were instead groundbreaking discussions about the state of the industry and various other moral quandaries. Not only have I picked up plenty of new skills and a heightened understanding of the industry, but I am confident to say that I have also met a mentor and friend that I wish absolutely nothing but the best for, and look forward to seeing our paths cross again in the new age.
— Shayan R | TASTE Business of Film, Media & Journalism Intern
